Requirements for digital delivery of documents (CTP) and Digital proof
Smurfit Kappa Zedek is a modern printing plant in the packaging industry, conforming with ISO 12647-2 norm
|
Introduction
Enclosed you will find our requirements with regard to delivering digital files.
What would we like to receive from you?
There are several different possibilities for delivering those files that will be required for the printing you wish to see on your packaging or display.
Please supply digital artwork in a final and approved form (clean data). Files should be fully editable, including all fonts and all images used. Through a digital delivery, we can take over a number of processes that would be carried out by your prepress supplier.
This is however linked to some costs, namely our internal processing costs.
Way of supplying digital artwork
We prefer receiving your data via our ftp server, however it is also possible to deliver data on a CD/DVD-ROM (once the original file has been burned on a CD-ROM, these data can no longer be amended so that later discussions are not possible).
When the data is delivered via ftp your data is checked for several things (see below) and an immediate feedback about the qualtity will take place. It is also checked if the data complies with our standards.
· max. 300% ink coverage (max. 3 full colours printed one upon the other)
· fonts
· images with a resolution lower than 300 dpi
· rgb images
· Texts / fonts smaller than 6 points.
· if it is a 1.5 PDF
The person who uploaded the data will receive feedback about the quality of the data through an automatically generated e-mail. Freehand, Corel Draw and Artpro cannot be checked by our automatic workflow but still you will get a report which says that the data has been uploaded.
For using our ftp site your data must comply with the following:
The folder structure of the data wich is uploaded onto our ftp server should look like the image below(the folder “links’’ should contain the used images in the file).

Way of supplying digital proofs

Digital proofs have to be manufactured according ISO12647-2, paper type 1-2 with ISO coated 391 profile.
Only ISO proofs according to this standard and within the tolerances can be used as color reference (please add Measure report).
If you can not deliver a ISO certified proof, we can supply it for you.
The icc profiles that are according the standard we use can be downloaded(free of charge) on the link below.

Additional information
- We would like to receive a printout that lists the contents of the saved media, on
which your design and all its component parts are saved. This is, of course,
intended for a quick check, so that we are sure we have received everything, and it
is in your and our interest.
- Also a colour print or a digital colour proof of the information that has been delivered in
a digital format must be supplied, along with a listing of the number of print colours. We
can, of course, also produce a ISO colour proof for you.
- If you have made any special adaptations in your document which must be observed, for
the purposes of trapping (colour overlap) for instance, then we must be informed
correspondingly. If no corresponding information is supplied, we will adapt your
document to our process.
- Please supply EAN codes in the ISO standard format.
- We can create EAN codes for you if we know the numbers and the typ of EAN code.
- If possible and relevant to your design, cut-outs in the dispersion varnish should be
indicated in a separate "layer".
Examination of your digital documents
The data is checked again for any nonconformities during our intake control because the automatic workflow is not able to check for any possible shortcomings. We surely will let you know if anything is not conform our standards and we can offer to remedy nonconformities at a cost - in case all required components have been supplied.
We check your data on the following points:
· bitmap images
· trapping 0,06 mm
· number of colours used
· overprinted illustrations and/or texts
· positioning of layout in regards to the cutter guide
· sufficient spacing (texts and images should be placed 3 mm from a crease-/cutline)
· a minimum of 5 mm overfill on all sides (layout should overlap the outer cutlines)
· EAN code according specifications
It is not possible to use FTP-Client software for data upload.
